Tea ceremony — called “chanoyu” or “chado” in Japanese — is an art form, a spiritual discipline, a way to socialize, and a window into Japanese culture. Practiced for more than 450 years, this unique way of sharing tea has spread around the world. This publication is to offer a deeper understanding for the ceremony that is practiced at the Shofuso Japanese Tea House. This publication pulled influences from Japan by creating ink strokes inspired by Japanese ink drawings paired with a simplistic layout similar to minimalist Japanese design and vertical type that echos Japanese kana.
